Following is the approximate lesson schedule for the above class, semester and teacher. These lessons may be interpreted as reading assignments which the students are expected to study before the topics are covered in class. Laboratory assignments are expected to be performed during the week assigned, and the reports are due at the beginning of the lab period the following week. There will be a penalty for late reports.

Students are advised to carefully study the contents of the GE:101 course index, course syllabus, and competencies list so they will understand their responsibilities in this class. Students are responsible for understanding the contents of these documents.

2 27 Aug
The Internet - Reading Assignment: Chapter 6: The Internet (pp 147-178), History of the Internet, other Internet pages.
Lab #1: Web Browsers. Perform "Practical Projects" 5 on p 178, and submit a report written to the guidelines specified in the class policies handout.
NO CLASSES 1 -3 SEPTEMBER!
3 3 Sept
PC hardware - Reading assignment: Chapter 1: Understanding Your Personal Computer (pp 1-28);  microglossary, PC organization, video standards, special keyboard keys, and Your New PC handouts.
Lab #2: Computer Configuration. Perform "Practical Projects" 2 and 3 on pp 27 and 28, and submit a report written to the guidelines specified in the class policies handout.
4 10 Sept PC Software - Reading assignment: Chapter 2: Software (pp 29-61).
Lab #3: Software Licensing. Perform "Practical Project" 4 on p 60, and submit a report written to the guidelines specified in the class policies handout.
5 17 Sept
Windows - Reading assignment: Chapter 3: Working with Windows (pp 62-97).
Lab #4: Windows Basics. Perform "Practical Project" 2 on p 96. In your report be sure to summarize the methods you used for each of the 11 steps.
6 24 Sept
Review and Quiz #1 covering weeks 1-6.
NO LAB THIS WEEK - good time to work on extra credits.
7 1 Oct
Files and folders - Reading assignment: Chapter 4: Understanding Files, Folders and Disk Maintenance (pp 98-123).
Lab #5: Files and Folders. Perform and report on "Practical Project" 1 on p 122.
8 8 Oct Windows Explorer - Reading assignment: Chapter 5: Working with Files and Folders (pp 124-146).
Lab #6: Windows Explorer. Perform "Practical Project" 4 on p 146. Your teacher will demonstrate how to document your results for inclusion in your lab report.

Introduction to HTML - Reading assignment: History of the Internet, other Internet pages, Sample HTML Code, and other HTML supplements.
Begin Lab #10 : HTML and the World Wide Web (finished Web project is due at 1:00 PM on 7 December).
HOLIDAYS! NO CLASSES 22 - 25 NOVEMBER
15 26 Nov
HTML continued - Reading assignment: History of the Internet, other Internet pages, Sample HTML Code, and other HTML supplements.
Begin Lab #10 : HTML and the World Wide Web (finished Web project is due at 1:00 PM on 7 December).
16 3 Dec
HTML conclusion - Reading assignment: History of the Internet, other Internet pages, Sample HTML Code, and other HTML supplements.
Complete Lab #10: HTML and the World Wide Web (finished Web project is due at 1:00 PM on 7 December).
The scheduled labs are completed. Students may wish to perform additional labs for extra credit.
LAST DAY TO SUBMIT LABS IS 7 DECEMBER AT 1:00 PM.
LAST DAY OF CLASSES IS 9 DECEMBER.

Final examinations are normally required for the completion of a course and for a final credit grade. The final exam for this section may be taken on 10 December from 12:00 AM - 1:50 PM. Watch the required "ee-discuss" email list for up-to-date news.
